Welcome to the CDES PTO!

The Chapel District PTO is proud to work together with the teachers, our new Principal Dr. Donmeyer and  School Manager Mrs. Giles to organize activities and additional educational opportunities for our children. We are divided into committees to organize PTO events. We are always looking for parent volunteers willing to chair a committee or help with events. Please join us!

PTO fundraising efforts are used to support many extra programs in the school.  Some examples include:   $600 per grade for field trips; Assemblies-$6,000 (First Strings, Mosaic artwork project for 5th graders,  Poetry-In-Residence, and many others); every teacher receives $150 for extra classroom supplies;  ice cream and pizza parties for classrooms; Captial expenditures not funded in the school budget--past examples include a snowblower, mops and brooms, gymnasium mats ($3100) and other items.  The PTO fully supports Field Day (food, ribbons, etc.).  Each student is supplied with the spiral planner each year.  We also have a Special Needs & Hardship  Fund available to those families  identified that cannot afford some of the field trips and other fees.  Also, this fund is available in times of excessive hardship to gather clothing, food & other necessary items.   We are working hard to provide great additional programs for our students and are open to any new suggestions!

Come out and meet our new Principal  Effective July 1, 2010 Dr. Lisa Donmoyer is appointed Principal of Chapel District Elementary School. Dr. Donmoyer is currently employed by Talbot County Public Schools as the Associate Principal at Easton Elementary School (Dobson Building) and replaces Ms. Lib Cassidy who was previously appointed to a Specialist position. Prior to this position, she served as the K-12 Science and Environmental Education Specialist, and in Prince George’s County she served as an Instructional Assistant for K-6 Science (1998-2000) and Teacher (1988-1998). “Dr. Donmoyer is a proven, experienced educational leader who will bring enthusiasm and a love for learning to Chapel District Elementary School,” stated Dr. Salmon.

Congratulations also goes out to Tawney Giles.  It was recently announced Mrs. Giles will be our full time school manager this year.

Here is a quick glimpse of our two new teachers for this year.  We look forward to meeting and getting to know them.

"My name is Sean Jones and I am excited to be teaching 4th grade at Chapel District Elementary School. I am a recent graduate from Salisbury University but have been around the county for years. After graduating from Easton High in 2005, I was hired as an intern. I spent 4 years interning at Easton Elementary School during my breaks from Salisbury. Last fall I completed my student teaching at Easton Elementary in 3rd and 4th grade. After taking a 2 month leave, I returned to Easton Elementary to long term substitute positions in 3rd and 4th grades. During my summer I love interacting with kids at different camp settings. I have worked at Camp Mardela in Denton and the YMCA’s Summer Camp program in Salisbury. I am really looking forward to joining the Chapel staff and teaching 4th grade.  Hope to see you and your child around the school. Go Cheetahs!"

"My name is Amy Cohee and I am absolutely thrilled to be working as a second grade teacher at Chapel District Elementary School! I grew up in Federalsburg, Maryland and upon my graduation from high school, attended Chesapeake College where I earned my Associate of Arts Degree in Teaching. I then transferred to Salisbury University and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in English. I was fortunate to have completed four long-term substitute assignments in Talbot County Public Schools my first year out of college. I am so grateful for those experiences because not only did it provide me with new insight on instruction and procedures in the county, it allowed me to work with some great kids! I can’t wait to begin this journey with the awesome staff, students, and parents of Chapel District Elementary School! "

Chapel District PTO is excited to provide our newly updated website. Coming soon will be a copy of the 2010/2011 PTO budget.  It has been requested to have access online to our budgetary goals to help our PTO members see all of the fantastic programs we support and better understand where our fundraising monies go.  CDES PTO does alot of fantastic things for our students and school and we are working to provide a "user friendly" format to present this information.  Our goal is to provide an up to date resource for parents and teachers to turn to for PTO and school related activities and programs. We welcome any input and feedback to make the website a valuable tool for all who visit it.
